Principal's Message

Greetings Parents/Guardians,
Welcome back to an exciting and incredible 2017-2018 school year! I hope you had a wonderful and restful summer vacation with family and friends. We are so excited about continuing our Vision to become an internationally recognized school of excellence in Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Math. This year our students will participate in our Performing Arts Academy as we move toward STEAM education! We are also excited that our students will have Recess every day with the help of our new business partner Playworks.
Breakfast is served each morning from 7:00a.m.-7:30a.m. The official school hours of operation are from 7:30a.m.-2:15p.m. Please note Math is 1 st Period this school year and it is critical that all students arrive on time and are in class no later than 7:35 am. Students are tardy at 7:36 a.m. If students have early dismissals they must be checked out prior to 1:30p.m. An excused early dismissal per school policy will only be given with verification of an approved appointment (doctor, dental, court, or approval by administration). Visit our website at www.mcnaires.dekalb.k12.ga.us frequently for updates, to view or Parent/Student Handbook, participate in educational games, and gather a variety of additional parent resources.
On May 22, 2016 McNair Academy made history by becoming 1 of only 50 schools in the world to receive AdvancED STEM certification! As a STEM certified school, we are requesting that all parents/guardians perform a minimum of 16 volunteer hours this school year. In addition, the expectation is that all parents/guardians and teachers become active PTA members. PTA membership is only $10 for the entire school year. If you are not connected, get connected. Receive important communication updates and information from McNair Academy by Texting @mcnairp to 81010 or (703) 665-3093. We look forward to serving you and our incredible Thoroughbred students this school year!
