All students at Ronald E. McNair Discovery Learning Academy participate in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math). McNair Discovery has two STEM curriculums. Our General STEM curriculum is for every student. All classrooms provide an integrated experience for the students to apply their learning to real world problems. It is our hope that by exposing all our students to STEM, they will find and interest in a STEM career. The other program is the STEM Academy. The STEM Academy consists of students who have met the academic requirements. Students in the STEM Academy must be above grade level or be in the gifted program. The students are selected via a multiple criteria which consist of standardize assessments, teacher recommendation, and a written essay.

 

The students in the STEM Academy receive a letter of admittance in the month of May. Students and parents are informed of the requirements of STEM Academy prior to the being to the upcoming school year. STEM Academy students are provided a curriculum that challenges students on a variety of grade levels. Students are exposed at their given level and levels higher. Students also participate in additional labs (coding, aquaponics, and Science) along with the general extra-curricular classes (Spanish, Physical Education, Art, Technology, and Robotics).
